About the sessions

When learning about singing students can choose to work on any or all of these three key aspects:

As we work on the physical process of singing, we focus on our breathing technique, and on releasing physical tensions that inhibit our voice.  By working on our breathing and releasing physical tensions we allow our body to expand and support our voice – we feel bigger; our voice is released; we can improve our general sense of well-being; and we can improve our ability to sing with freedom, ease and confidence.

A parallel process can take place when we increase awareness of our thought patterns.  By letting go of restrictive thought patterns, and reducing the power of our inner critic, we allow our mind and sense of self to become bigger.

A third layer of personal development can come through exploring the meaning of the words we sing – working out what lyrics mean to us, and whether we might choose to sing some words and not others.

We can achieve vocal freedom
by learning techniques that support our voice

Vocal freedom and personal growth come through increased levels of self-awareness; and through learning techniques that ensure our body, mind and emotions support – rather than inhibit – our voice.

Change can be very exciting and liberating, but speed is not of the essence.  It takes time to adjust and learn new habits.  Students are always encouraged to be kind to themselves, and to take the time they need to learn at a pace that is appropriate for them.
